A two-week family visit to Moody's relatives in Iran stretches on, and Betty Mahmoody (Sally Field) cannot say why her husband won't set a date to leave. Alfred Molina plays Moody, who has gone from charming doctor to a man who controls her passport, her phone calls and where she goes. Brian Gilbert keeps Betty and her daughter Mahtob (Sheila Rosenthal) at the center, and the film comes down to what a mother will risk to keep her child.
