Now, Voyager

(1942)Directed by Irving Rapper117 minRomance, Drama
“It happens in the best of families. But you'd never think it could happen to her!”

Charlotte Vale (Bette Davis) wants one thing, and it is to get out from under her mother, Mrs. Henry Vale (Gladys Cooper), who has run her life for so long that a nervous breakdown seems the only exit. Irving Rapper follows her onto a cruise, where she meets Jerry Durrance (Paul Henreid). The title comes from a Walt Whitman line, "Now, voyager, sail thou forth, to seek and find," and the film is about how long a person can go without being given what she wants.
