O. Henry's Full House

(1952)Directed by Henry Hathaway, Henry King, Howard Hawks117 minComedy, Drama
“A dozen top stars - five famed directors bring you the best stories of O. Henry!”

In 1952, 20th Century Fox gathered five short films, each adapted from a separate story by O. Henry, into one picture. In "The Cop and the Anthem," Soapy (Charles Laughton) tells his fellow bum Horace (David Wayne) that he means to get himself arrested, so he can spend the winter in a warm jail cell. Hathaway and Hawks split the directing, and every story hangs on a small, desperate need, from Soapy's cot to the Christmas gift that costs a couple everything.
