“He knew where $50,000 lay begging to be STOLEN!”

Dave Burke (Ed Begley), a former cop with a plan for a small-town bank job, needs two partners, and the men he picks have nothing in common but money trouble. Robert Wise puts Earle Slater (Robert Ryan), a bitter ex-con who won't work beside a Black man, in the same room as Johnny Ingram (Harry Belafonte), a nightclub singer in debt. Earle keeps saying he needs the money, and the longer he stays in that room, the more he has to swallow to get it.
