Ode to Joy

“He's never been happier. And that's the problem.”

In this 2019 romantic comedy, Charlie (Martin Freeman) has a disease that knocks him into sudden sleep whenever he feels happy. He has built a life of small tricks for keeping joy at a distance, and then he meets Francesca (Morena Baccarin), who is exactly the kind of person he has trained himself to avoid. Jason Winer directs it as a light comedy, letting the jokes carry the ache underneath.
