In 1964, on the frontier near an army fort, renegades are working to push the soldiers out, and the whiskey they hand the local tribes is how they mean to do it. Old Shatterhand (Lex Barker) rides in to stop them, alongside the Apache chief Winnetou (Pierre Brice). Hugo Fregonese's men are racing the bottle, since each drunken warrior is one more attacker aimed at Captain Bradley's (Guy Madison) fort.
