“A Screen Event To Be Remembered For All Time !”

Oliver Twist (John Howard Davies), a nine-year-old orphan, asks Mr. Bumble (Francis L. Sullivan) for a second helping of gruel and is promptly hired out as an apprentice. He runs from that fate and lands among the street boys of the Artful Dodger and their keeper Fagin (Alec Guinness). David Lean sets Oliver beside Nancy (Kay Walsh), who is sympathetic but bound to Bill Sikes (Robert Newton), and whatever she feels for the boy has to be hidden.
