On Chesil Beach

“A different time. A different love.”

Florence Ponting (Saoirse Ronan), a young violinist, marries Edward Mayhew (Billy Howle) in England in 1962, and the two of them are sure they love each other. Dominic Cooke follows them to a hotel by the sea on their wedding night, where neither can say aloud what they fear. The room is quiet, the dinner is going cold, and the shingle of Chesil Beach lies waiting outside the window.
