One Foot in Heaven

In the years around 1941, a Methodist minister named William Spence (Fredric March) moves his family from one parish to the next, each congregation a new town with its own opinions. Irving Rapper follows William and his wife Hope (Martha Scott) as they settle into one church after another. Mostly the film is about a household bending to fit a calling, and how much of ordinary life gets spent in service to other people.
