One Hundred Men and a Girl

(1937)Directed by Henry Koster84 minComedy, Music
“She thrills you again!”

In 1937 America, out-of-work musicians crowd the sidewalks with their instrument cases, and John Cardwell (Adolphe Menjou) is one of them, a trombone player with no orchestra left to join. His daughter Patricia (Deanna Durbin) gathers his jobless friends into a symphony of their own and sets out to win over the conductor Leopold Stokowski. Henry Koster builds the story around a plain idea: people who lose their work still need somewhere to make their music.
