Dr. George Dumurrier (Jean Sorel) runs a clinic in San Francisco and carries a secret nobody else in the city knows. His wife Susan (Marisa Mell) has died, and then he sees a stripper named Monica Weston (also Mell) who looks exactly like her. Lucio Fulci's first giallo tracks George as suspicion tightens around the dead woman's insurance money, until he cannot tell whether he is the hunter or the one being hunted.
