One Sings, the Other Doesn't
“You are not born a woman… you become one.”
Pomme (Valérie Mairesse) is a young woman in 1960s France who helps her neighbor Suzanne (Thérèse Liotard), a mother of two with a third pregnancy she cannot afford, get an abortion. The two lose touch, then find each other again ten years later, Pomme singing with a traveling troupe and Suzanne working at a family planning clinic. Agnès Varda follows their letters and visits across fourteen years, with Pomme's songs running through it.
