One Way or Another

A group of Christian Democrat politicians shut themselves away for a retreat of spiritual exercises, and then the crimes begin, one after another, with no one able to say who is behind them. Elio Petri keeps the cameras inside the retreat's cold, airless rooms, where M. (Gian Maria Volonté) and the priest Don Gaetano (Marcello Mastroianni) cross paths between prayers. Their dealings stay polite and quiet, each man holding back what he knows about the other.
