“A top-secret mission of gigantic proportions!”

Capt. Sam Cahill (Danny Glover) wants to keep a promise he made to the Montagnard villagers of Dak Nhe, who need a new elephant before their ritual can happen. His fellow Green Beret, Capt. T.C. Doyle (Ray Liotta), thinks the job is ridiculous, but the order stands, and the animal weighs 8,000 pounds. Simon Wincer sends the team toward 200 miles of rough jungle in 1968, with the village's trust riding on whether the elephant arrives in time.
