“It's not just a place. It's a state of mind.”

Shaun Brumder (Colin Hanks) is a surfer in Orange County who wants out, and a Stanford acceptance would do it, until his guidance counselor mails in the wrong transcript. Jake Kasdan sends him back toward the house he's trying to leave, with his stoned older brother Lance (Jack Black) and a family that never stops talking. Lance is a mess, but he is the one who gets in the car with Shaun, and the two start to look like brothers.
