“Terror just beneath the surface.”

Captain Nolan (Richard Harris), an Irish fisherman working out of a Newfoundland harbor, sets out to catch a killer whale and ends up killing the female and her unborn calf. The male watches it happen, and the village starts paying for it. Michael Anderson puts Nolan on the water with a marine biologist, Rachel Bedford (Charlotte Rampling), and a man named Umilak (Will Sampson), as the captain finds out how far the whale will follow him.
