Ordinary People

(1980)Directed by Robert Redford124 min · RDrama
“Everything is in its proper place... except the past.”

Conrad Jarrett (Timothy Hutton) is back home in Lake Forest, Illinois, after a suicide attempt, and nobody in the house will say what happened to his older brother. Robert Redford, in his first film as director, watches a family that keeps its good manners while its father, Calvin (Donald Sutherland), tries to hold things together. Beth (Mary Tyler Moore) sets the table as usual, and Conrad sits in front of a plate he doesn't touch.
