“Lead us into temptation.”

Luis Antonio Vargas (Antonio Banderas), a wealthy coffee trader in 19th-century Cuba, has arranged to marry a woman he knows only through letters. Julia Russell (Angelina Jolie) steps off the boat looking nothing like the photograph she sent, and Luis marries her anyway. Michael Cristofer follows what he has staked on her: his fortune, his name, and a heart he can't take back.
