Ornamental Hairpin

At a mountain inn in 1941, the guests spend their days soaking in the hot spring and keeping to themselves. Then a hairpin left behind by an earlier visitor cuts the foot of Emi (Kinuyo Tanaka), and everyone at the inn, Professor Katae (Tatsuo Saitō) and Nanmura (Chishū Ryū) among them, starts wondering whose it was. Shimizu keeps his camera patient and low-key, letting the guests drift in and out of the bath and the corridors.
