Orphans of the Storm

(1921)Directed by D.W. Griffith150 minDrama, History, Romance
“A dramatic epic”

Henriette (Lillian Gish) leads her blind sister Louise (Dorothy Gish) toward Paris on the eve of the Revolution, hoping a doctor there can restore the sight the plague took. They have been raised as sisters, and they set out together with no one else to turn to. D.W. Griffith plays their separation as pure melodrama, keeping Lillian Gish's face in close view as the story pulls them apart.
