Osaka Elegy

Ayako Murai (Isuzu Yamada) has a job at a telephone company in Osaka and a father whose embezzlement could put him in prison. The money is owed, and her boss Sonosuke Asai (Benkei Shiganoya) is the one man who can cover it, at a price she agrees to pay. Mizoguchi's 1936 drama keeps coming back to Ayako and her sister Sachiko (Chiyoko Ôkura), and the distance growing between them.
