“The greatest Othello ever by the greatest actor of our time”

Iago (Frank Finlay), an ensign, wants Othello (Laurence Olivier) brought down, and he has the patience to do it slowly. Stuart Burge films the National Theatre's stage production, with Maggie Smith as Desdemona, Joyce Redman as Emilia, and Derek Jacobi in his first film role as Cassio. Othello has only just married, and one whispered suggestion from Iago puts that marriage, and Desdemona's life, in danger.
