Out of Africa

(1985)Directed by Sydney Pollack161 min · PGHistory, Romance, Drama
“Based on a true story.”

Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) leaves Denmark at the start of the twentieth century for a life in Africa, and the reason the move was ever made stays vague until the country takes hold of her. She settles into a new place of her own, with Bror von Blixen-Finecke (Klaus Maria Brandauer) beside her and Denys Finch Hatton (Robert Redford) arriving at the edge of it. Sydney Pollack films the land wide and unhurried, and lets the people look small inside it.
