“Is any girl safe?”

Ann Walton (Mala Powers) is newly engaged, her days settled around work and her family's house, until one walk home leaves her changed in a way she cannot name to the people closest to her. Ida Lupino, who cowrote the script, keeps the film on Ann as she pulls away from her fiancé Jim Owens (Robert Clarke) and from her parents. Jim keeps reaching for her, and she keeps turning away from him.
