Palombella rossa

Michele Apicella (Nanni Moretti) is an Italian Communist Party deputy who has lost his memory in a car crash, though hardly anyone around him seems to notice. He comes to in the middle of a water polo match on the eve of election day, and Moretti, who also wrote the film, lets his past surface in pieces between the plays. The loss of one man's memory and the party's doubts about itself are made to look like the same thing.
