Panic in the Streets

(1950)Directed by Elia Kazan96 minThriller, Crime
“THE SCREEN'S GREATEST EXCITEMENT OF THE YEAR!”

Clint Reed (Richard Widmark), a public health doctor in New Orleans, wants one thing: to be believed when he says the dead man pulled from the waterfront had bubonic plague. He has 48 hours to find the killer who infected him, and Captain Tom Warren (Paul Douglas) would rather treat it as a plain murder. Kazan shot the whole film on location, and Reed goes through the Port and the docks like a man whose training has given him no way to stop.
