Moses Pray (Ryan O'Neal) is a Bible-selling con man working the Depression-era Midwest when he ends up driving a nine-year-old orphan to her aunt's house. Addie Loggins (Tatum O'Neal), who may or may not be his daughter, sizes up his racket fast and starts working it alongside him. Peter Bogdanovich shot it in black and white across Kansas and Missouri, a story about two people with no one else deciding whether they will stay.
