Parallel Mothers

Janis (Penélope Cruz), a photographer in her late thirties, is thrilled to be pregnant, though the father is a man she has no plans to marry. In the hospital, she shares a room with Ana (Milena Smit), a frightened teenager, and the two give birth on the same day. Pedro Almodóvar follows their bond as it deepens past the maternity ward, binding one woman to the other in ways neither could have planned.
