Eleanor Ashby (Janette Scott) is a fragile young woman who has lived in the shadow of her family's losses ever since her parents died in a plane crash and her brother Tony took his own life. Her brother Simon (Oliver Reed), a drunk who needs money, is only weeks from his inheritance when a man turns up claiming to be Tony. Freddie Francis puts Eleanor between the two men, one she is afraid of and one she has mourned for eleven years.
