Eurydice (Keiko Itō) designs the album covers for Orpheus (Francis Huster), a rock star who writes every love song for her, and then she is found dead of an overdose. Orpheus, torn until then between her and his sound engineer Calaïs (Laurent Malet), goes down into the Underworld to bargain with Hades (Jean Marais). Jacques Demy, who wrote the script, takes the old Greek myth and sets it to rock music.
