Passport to Pimlico

(1949)Directed by Henry Cornelius84 minComedy
“French Goings-On in the Heart of London.”

A stray bomb left over from the war goes off in a Pimlico street and opens a hole to a cellar full of treasure and old documents. Professor Hatton-Jones (Margaret Rutherford) reads them and declares the neighborhood part of Burgundy, so Arthur Pemberton (Stanley Holloway) and his neighbors are suddenly foreigners, free of rationing and fussy rules. Henry Cornelius shoots it in cramped, crowded London streets, and the laughter rises from people packed close together.
