It's 1952, and Pat Pemberton (Katharine Hepburn) can win almost any game she plays, golf included, until her fiancé Collier Weld (William Ching) turns up at the final holes and she falls apart. Mike Conovan (Spencer Tracy) is a slightly shady sports promoter who sees what she could be and signs on to manage her. George Cukor puts them up against mobsters, and her one real chance at a championship depends on whether she can keep Collier's voice out of her head.
