Path to War

“He promised peace, but chose war.”

Inside the Johnson White House, the men around the president keep asking how a war nobody wanted gets started anyway. Lyndon Johnson (Michael Gambon) campaigns on peace while Robert McNamara (Alec Baldwin) and his advisers feed him numbers he can't quite refuse. John Frankenheimer, in his last film, keeps the camera close on Johnson and Clark Clifford (Donald Sutherland), two old friends whose trust is tested as the commitment grows.
