“Not for honor. Not for country. For his wife and child.”

Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford), a CIA analyst on holiday in London, steps in when an IRA faction ambushes a British official's car, and the attackers get away. Sean Miller (Sean Bean), the young gunman Ryan stopped, has a brother and a splinter group that now wants Ryan's family, his wife Cathy (Anne Archer) and daughter Sally (Thora Birch) included. Phillip Noyce moves the story from London to the Ryans' home at a steady, tightening pace.
