Patricia Hearst (Natasha Richardson) is a publishing heiress in the 1970s, taken from her home by a small band of American revolutionaries and shut away from everything she knew. Paul Schrader, working from her own autobiography, follows her through a long captivity under the group's leader Cinque (Ving Rhames), where her sense of who she is starts to give. It's about how fast a person's loyalties can change when every outside voice is taken away.
