Pawn Sacrifice

“On the board he fought the Cold War. In his mind he fought his madness.”

Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) is an American chess prodigy who trusts almost no one, and he arrives at the Cold War with a challenge for the Soviet Union's best players. Father Bill Lombardy (Peter Sarsgaard) coaches him toward a 1972 match in Reykjavík against the champion Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber). Edward Zwick keeps the camera close on Fischer's face and the board, so the match builds slowly in the quiet between moves.
