Diane Hudson (Catherine Keener) is a buttoned-up New York lawyer whose husband has just asked for a divorce. She drives her teenage children, Zoe (Elizabeth Olsen) and Jake (Nat Wolff), to Woodstock to see Grace (Jane Fonda), the hippie mother she hasn't spoken to in years. Bruce Beresford shoots the town where it is set, and Diane stands in her work clothes on Grace's doorstep.
