Mark Lewis (Karlheinz Böhm) spends his days at a film studio and his nights taking racy photographs of women, and he is also shooting a documentary on fear. His subjects are women he kills, and he films every face as it learns what is happening. Michael Powell follows Mark's friendship with Helen (Anna Massey), who lives in the flat below, and Mark keeps his camera running, and she sees a screen.
