Pennies from Heaven

Arthur (Steve Martin) sells sheet music across Depression-era Chicago and rural Illinois, and he keeps trying to live inside the songs he sells. His chance comes with Eileen (Bernadette Peters), a schoolteacher who has never met anyone like him. Herbert Ross has the cast mime to old recordings, so the dreary world breaks into song, and what grows between Arthur and Eileen is tender and uneasy at once.
