(1937)Directed by Julien Duvivier94 minDrama, Crime, Romance
“The World's New Triumph!”

In 1937, the Casbah of Algiers is a crowded maze of stairways and alleys where Pépé le Moko (Jean Gabin), one of France's most wanted criminals, has gone to ground. He knows the police will be waiting if he steps beyond it, and Inspector Slimane (Lucas Gridoux) is content to wait. Then Gaby (Mireille Balin), a Parisian lost in those alleys, wanders into his life, and Julien Duvivier builds the film around the hold both of them feel.
