Perfidious Byzantine

(2000)Directed by Gani Müjde97 minComedy, History

Yetiş Bey (Cem Davran) is a Turkish warrior of the old school, the kind of hero the 1970s historical melodramas used to put on screen, and his enemy is the Byzantine Emperor Illetyus (Mehmet Ali Erbil). Gani Müjde makes the film as a parody of those cheap, earnest epics, with the same stagey acting and the same grand speeches. Yetiş Bey has to hold his ground against the Emperor, and everything he has fought for rides on it.
