Period of Adjustment

“The agonizing pause between the honeymoon and the marriage!”

George Haverstick (Jim Hutton) wants his honeymoon to go the way he planned it, and with his new bride Isabel (Jane Fonda) beside him, he drives to visit his old friend Ralph Bates (Anthony Franciosa). Ralph's own marriage to Dorothea (Lois Nettleton) is already coming apart. George Roy Hill, working from Tennessee Williams' play, sets two marriages side by side and shows that wanting to love someone and knowing how are different things.
