“He had a great job, beautiful wife and a habit the size of Utah.”
Jerry Stahl (Ben Stiller) is a television comedy writer in 1990s Hollywood, with credits on thirtysomething, Twin Peaks and ALF and a heroin habit that grows along with his paycheck. He marries Sandra (Elizabeth Hurley), and Kitty (Maria Bello) comes into his life as he tries to clean himself up. David Veloz, adapting Stahl's own memoir, writes and directs it in the flat, first-person voice of a man telling you how it happened.
