Permanent Vacation

(1981)Directed by Jim Jarmusch75 minDrama

Nobody can say what Allie (Chris Parker) is looking for in downtown Manhattan, least of all Allie. He is in his twenties, his father is gone, his mother is in an institution, and he spends his days drifting between odd strangers while Charlie Parker plays in his head. Jim Jarmusch shot this first feature on 16 mm just after film school, and it follows a young man who keeps moving because stopping would mean answering.
