“Three portraits.”

Three women are each trying to get out from under a man who holds the terms of their lives. Delia (Kyra Sedgwick), Greta (Parker Posey) and Paula (Fairuza Balk) take their turns, one story at a time, with a narrator's voice laying out what they have done and what they carry. Rebecca Miller's film asks nothing grander than how much of a life belongs to the person living it.
