“Sometimes dead is better.”

Dr. Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) moves his family to a rural house in Maine, set beside a highway where the trucks never seem to slow down. Their neighbor Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne) is friendly and talkative, and after the family cat is killed, he offers Louis a place to bury it. Mary Lambert, working from Stephen King's own screenplay, keeps the camera on ordinary rooms and roads until they start to feel dangerous.
