“Love... born in the simple hearts of children... loving gloriously... triumphant through the years!”

In 1930s Paris, young Peter Ibbetson and his closest friend Mary are separated when his mother dies and he is sent to live with a stern uncle in England. Years on, Peter (Gary Cooper) is an architect with no time for women, until a commission brings him to the Duke and Duchess of Towers. The duchess (Ann Harding) tells him she is Mary, and Henry Hathaway films their reunion in black and white, giving the old friendship room to be remembered before it is lived again.
