“Faith in chaos.”
Maximillian Cohen (Sean Gullette) shuts himself in a cramped apartment and feeds numbers into a homemade computer, convinced they describe everything around him. Darren Aronofsky shoots it in grainy, high-contrast black and white, with Max's old friend Sol (Mark Margolis) warning him to stop. Max wants to prove that the mess of human life follows one hidden pattern, and the pattern he is chasing leaves no room for doubt.
