Jan Horak (Hugo Haas), a widowed railroad dispatcher at a lonely desert stop, drives into town with his savings to buy a dog. He comes back with Betty (Beverly Michaels), a flashy blonde who marries him and has her eye on his $7,000. Haas, writing and directing his first American picture, keeps the two of them in the same small place, her at the window, him with the money.
