Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman

(2005)Directed by Adrian Shergold98 minDrama, History
“1940's England. When the world needed a hero, he gave them what they wanted. But history can be cruel.”

Albert Pierrepoint (Timothy Spall) wants to be the best executioner in Britain, as his father was before him, and he delivers groceries by day so no one knows what he does at night. Adrian Shergold follows his rise through the cases of Dorothea Waddingham (Lizzie Hopley), Elizabeth Volkenrath (Joyia Fitch) and Ruth Ellis (Mary Stockley), as the secret gets harder to hold. Annie (Juliet Stevenson), his wife, shares the house with the work and the silence it demands.
